How to Bypass a Firewall or Internet Filter?

My new employee has a strict privacy policy. I even can not get to gmail account. I can search google.com. I tried to search hidemyass site and it blocks it. I even tried with putty to establish SSH connection to my home network and I didn't get through - even login prompt didn't appear. What can I do to bypass companies firewalls? I am at remote location as the central company is located in other country. I think they are using some kind of VPN with SOPHOS firewalls installed on a computer. Still waiting to get my new laptop. Now I am on a desktop, which is very limited.
