How do I stop sharing updates?

HOW do I stop sharing my folders on a multiple users harddrive?

  • There are 3 users on this computer[Windows Vista Home Edition], and i am not the administrator. My sister keeps getting into all my files, yet i thought all my files were private. I right click on "Pictures", properties, Sharing Tab, Share, and then Stop Sharing. "This may take a few minutes" "You could not stop sharing the selected folder" Why can't I? PLEASSEE, any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

  • Answer:

Well, that's the bad thing about sharing a computer with the family roommates, (ect., ect.) but you have to get on the administrator's account and go to the Control Panel and make yourself an administrator. Don't worry, you are doing the right thing and you know how to block people from looking at your files. (: But the thing with that is you MUST be an administrator to protect your files like that. But I believe that there are some restrictions that other admins can have on other admins. I had trouble with this too before. Just talk to your parents/whoever you live with/whoever is the administrator, and tell them those problems with your sister or wait until they accidentally leave the room with their account still logged in. Then you go in the user settings and change yours. Good luck. (:
