Is there any way to access my previous addresses?

  • My computer will only access https addresses and not http addresses....why is that? I tried to access the normal http addresses to websites but only get the "internet explorer cannot display webpage" message everytime...yet when I go to a secure address (https)...it works just fine!...I've never seen anything like this before...I'm used to it being the other way around...what could be the reason for this? I have tried resetting my security and privacy setings and nothing has worked, however if I go to "guest" logon name it works just fine. the problem seems to only affect the primary logon name, but still can't seem to isolate the problem. Can anyone help me fix this?

perhaps it is being blocked in your firewall

http uses port 80 and https uses port 443. So if port 80 is blocked by your firewall or router then http traffic will not get through. As you mention it works okay using a guest account then you can rule the router out. Try turning your firewall off temporarily so that you can test going to a website. If it works turn your firewall back on ( make sure you do this anyway! ) and check the individual program settings in your firewall. If this has only started to happen its possible that a program you had been using and decided to block its connection to the internet is also using port 80.
