How do you find out what your SSID and WEP key are?

How do i find my SSID and WEP key?

  • if you can tell me how to turn off my SSID

  • Answer:

You need to log into the wireless router from a connected machine and go to wireless security to set the wep key, and then set an ssid and channel. Read the manual, they are all different. Do not hide it, this makes no difference to security, as it can be found.

If you have a wireless home network with a wireless router, then you should go to the webpage of the router and config it. Usually the webpage is http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 or (if you have UPnP enabled) you can click the icon existing in Network (Neighbourhood) config. SSID is a service set identifier which provides a unique name to your device in your wireless network, so you cannot disable it unless you want to disable your wireless network and use it as a wired network only. Yet, WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) is an algorithm you can enable if you want to have your network more secured. You can disable it if you are sure that no one can or want to acces your network on bad purpose. If but your question you mean, that you want to connect to your network but you do not know what is the name of the router, that it will appear if do a wireless scan for networks in your are. The most easy way to do that is by your integrated wireless network in Windows. All routers available will appear with their SSID.

The internal, LAN-IP address is normally set to a default, private number. Linksys routers, for example, use 192.168.1.1 for their internal IP address. D-Link and Netgear routers typically use 192.168.0.1. Some US Robotics routers use 192.168.123.254, and some SMC routers use 192.168.2.1. No matter the brand of router, its default internal IP address should be provided in documentation. Administrators often have the option to change this IP address during router setup. In any case, however, the private LAN-IP address remains fixed once set. It can be viewed from the router's administrative console. Once you have found out your ip address of your router you can edit the settings from there, would be more helpful if you gave us the make of your router.

U need to login to your wireless router in order to turn off the SSID broadcast. U can also recreate a new WEP key if u forget the previous key. http://blog.diyersitzone.net
