How To Unblock Websites At Work?

How do I unblock websites on my work computer?

  • Some idiot thought it would be funny to block a few websites from my computer like facebook and wikipedia and myspace. When I type in the URL it takes me to a serch site - http://www.ask.com/web?l=dis&o=13992&qsrc=2873&q=myspace.com - If I go to Google, search, and click on the link it shows - Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage - I don't see any block programs so what can I do?

  • Answer:

Some idiot? An employer has both the right to block whatever he/she wishes on the computers that he/she owns, and also the legal right to fire somebody found to be accessing blocked sites. If you are 100% sure the above does not apply (there is no company-wide block) then ask your IT guy for advice. However the vast majority or companies do have blocks in place and it actually constitutes a criminal misdemeanor (tampering) to bypass such blocks

Assuming it is not your company doing this directly (they usually display a message that this is not for company use) then I would look at your internet options to see if something was changed. It may be worth checking with your IT support folks first to make sure there is no infrastructure issue preventing your access.

I got this http://www.surfbouncer.com/stealth_ssl_vpn.htm two days ago and put it on a flash drive. It busted through the filter like it wasn't there. I've used it for like 2 days now and it's not been blocked.
