How do I know if I have a firewall on my computer?

I know my computer has been hacked, how do i install a firewall?

  • I know my computer has been hacked. What is the best firewall provider to buy from? I've heard that Windows XP and up has a built in firewall, how do I turn it on? I'm running on Windows XP Proffesionnal. I've also been told to encrypt it.. How hard would that be to do? Or should I get a computer person to come over? And finally, How was your Thankgiving?

  • Answer:

Win-XP with service pack 2 (or 3) has a built in firewall, on by default, although some malware will turn these off. "Zone Alarm" home/free version will be best for your level of skill. http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/anti-virus-spyware-free-download.htm# "Encryption" has nothing to do with a firewall: you may be confusing that with WiFi router encryption. What exactly leads you to think you've been hacked? There are only 10,000 things that can go wrong with Windows systems, and more detail is needed to zero in on a solution.

You need a backup CD for your computer if someone hackes it.. you should of been doing that when you first got the computer they always ask you for a back up of the hole computer.. when you install that backup will reset from the begning so your computer wont be hacked anymore.. and also you should instal AVG anti virus .. its a awesome firewall for your computer .. it protects it.. and becarefull. or you should window 3 or window vista is also good for your computer.. it also protects against hackers and virus throught your computer..

are you sure your computer was hacked, thats something highely unlikely.if you wanna turn on your firewall go to control panel, security center, windows firewall and turn it on,but there are better firewalls out there that use less resources and far more effective.and get a good antivirus suite like avast,it can protcet you from exploit attacks

T-day was great thanks As far as a firewall, I suggest you use a good virus protection software, like Norton or McAfee. They have a good built in firewall and can guide you through the set up, They will also scan your system for malware of all kinds. Good luck
