MAC possible trojan/virus - amazon order, pink line on screen and more.?
-
I downloaded a torrent/sharing application, but I did not download any torrents (because they wouldn't) About a day after, a pink line appeared on the screen, and won't go away. Today, a parcel arrived from amazon - It had been paid for by my card and sent to my address. I did not order this item! (i'm sending it back) - The item may have been in my viewing history/recommendations, but I'm not too sure. I paid my ebay seller fees (a one-off debit payment) but did not receive a conformation email from ebay (I don't know if I was meant to, this is the first time paying for seller fees) Please Help! thanks

Answer:
It would help if you tell us what the torrent app. you installed was, but a quick look on a number of Mac security sites show that it's more than likely you've installed some MalWare. Get onto a clean machine and get your passwords for Amazon, banking, any and all other online services, changed asap. Remember, Macs have the KeyChain store (in Utilities) and you'll have entered the master password when you installed the malware so the malware has access to every piece of information in your keychain. Get the Mac off the internet (disconnect wireless and wired networks) and don't reconnect it until you've scanned and cleaned it with whatever internet security package you're using. Your internet security package should have found the malware before you got as far as installing it. Which one are you using and when did it last update?

Can i ask what mac you have if it's an imac then try looking on google for solutions!
A lot of what you are describing is coincidental. First off, a trojan is not a virus. You have to agree to download a trojan and install it with an admin password. A virus will install itself and replicate itself on a computer. There are no MacOS X viruses, the Sophos website below will back me up. The 8 known Mac trojans are in torrents of Snow Leopard, iWorks 09 and Photoshop CS4. They are also in fake software: a poker game, a malware remover, an antivirus, a codec to view porn and a codec to view HD porn. If you did not install any of those, than odds are you didn't install a trojan. The Mac trojans turn your Mac into a spambot or are keyloggers. Your best bet if you are concerned is try the 30 day free demo of MacScan. It will check for the Mac trojans and any tracking cookies. The pink line should go away on a restart.
