Can anyone help me with Windows Automatic Updates?

Could anyone help with computer viruses?

  • Okay so i've let my brother use the computer last weekend while i was away. I've come back to discover that avast has found a few viruses so it restarted and then did a check. It said something like win32 root kit infected. So i removed all infected stuff. Tried to backup some of my web page work. and i'm unable to find my usb. I have 3 ports i've put the usb in each one and it still wont discover usb. So i went into device manager and it has like a yellow triangle with a explanation mark in it. So i deleted it then reinstalled the usb drive. Still hasn't worked. Still has the yellow triangle. So searched around on net and people said about doing a windows update. went to windows update and it has a red shield with an X in it. Tried to update it and a pop up box came saying Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. So looked on google and someone said about going into services and finding automatic run. That isn't in the services some reason also my computer has not updated windows in a while. Computer am using is Windows 7 Software Avast,Super Spyware Remover. Zone Alarm. Can anyone help me update my windows?? Also what software do you recommend for the future? Last thing is there any free firewall software to block sites such as porn etc. ones that will infect the computer Will rate the top answer

Oh wow, I don't even want to know what have you done so far with your poor computer but it surely does not sound like fun. That is crazy! Firstly Avast is not that good. If you want a really good antivirus then go for Kaspersky or G Data. Other than that if you're using Windows 7 and your computer is quite recent you should be able to do full system restore. Back up your data on external hard drive and restore or re-install full system. You don't need extra firewalls etc. Just burn installation CD for Linux Ubuntu 10.10 www.ubuntu.com, and install inside your Windows (or replace the whole system if you wish) that way you get almost no viruses (99% safe).

First, restore your computer to the time before you gave it to your brother to use. Now, run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool. Enter MRT in your search or RUN box and open the program (press ENTER or OK). Start it by clicking NEXT at the bottom of the page. Follow the prompts to remove the virus if there. Now, download Malwarebytes to your computer if you can. Save it to your desktop under a different name. Use a flash drive if the virus doesn't allow it loaded directly on your computer. Run the program and it should find and remove the virus. If this program works for you and you want to keep it, I suggest using the paid version. It is one of the best security program for your computer. Just remember to remove any other security software because they may interfere with one another and cause more problems.
