Possible Keylogger from legit program?
-
Hello, I've just started playing the beta for the game Star Wars: The Old Republic. The first time I started up the beta (around 2:45PM EST on 11/26) my anti-virus, Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 detected a PDM.keylogger that seemed to be associated with the SWTOR.EXE file. The full path was: C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ELECTRONIC ARTS\BIOWARE\STAR WARS - THE OLD REPUBLIC\BETATEST\RETAILCLIENT\SWTOR.EXE The status displayed by Kaspersky is currently "Inactive". I have run a scan on the file and on the containing folder and nothing has come from those scans. Ran a full scan about an hour ago and it came up clean. I have uninstalled the game for now just to be on the safe side. I'm assuming this is a false-positive reading by Kaspersky, and the only thing that I downloaded today was the update for SWTOR, but I wanted to get a few other opinions, just to make sure. Also, if this really is a keylogger, is uninstalling the game enough to get rid of it? Thanks in advance

Answer:
Hello :) Try a thorough scan with Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html If it does pick it up, remove the program and delete the virus with Spybot. If the game is illegally downloaded (by torrent) then it most probably has a virus -Asad

If you downloaded the game from a torrent website and used a crack that was provided by the uploader than most virus software will pick up the crack as a keylogger or virus. You should normally be safe. If you don't want to risk it, buy the game from a retailer.
