How can I get the IP address of the person through his email address?

Anyone know how to find someones IP address? (details inside)?

  • Recently, on facebook, a certain person going under an anonymous user name has been posting a LOT of crap about friends of mine and some people he/she has never met. It's made a few of my friends cry, and it's made the rest (myself included) quite angry. So is there anyway to find out their IP address? All I have is his/her email address, a facebook account, and formspring account. I'd prefer to do this myself, not get an ISP or authorities involved. So no one tell me to call the cops or any of that, just answer the question if you know. Thanks in advance. PS: I dont intend on doing anything illegal with his/her IP address, just wish to maybe find a real name, or at least scare them into stopping.

You cannot find out the IP address of someone based on the information which you have got. You would need to have an e-mail for example from this person, then you could simply see the IP address in the headers of the e-mail in question. Keep in mind that an IP address might not say a lot. It might simply point to a city or region, which would not be useful, or it could point to the ISP of this person, which would even be less useful. You could compare the IP address and IP range with other people you know, to see if there is a possibility that it is someone who you know, but if this person has a dynamic IP address, it will be hard to find an exact match. But like I already wrote, without an e-mail from this person for example, there is nothing you can do currently. Sorry.

Best way is just to block them or ignore them and get on with life. You should at least let Fb know and they can deal with it as to IP blocking "its" account, that way he has to use another PC to create another account, By that time you have all changed you settings. Once "its" account is blocked, he has to explain why and to get it unblocked. I have had an account in this forum blocked for 3 years, for asking an in appropriate question. In T.O.S. they use the word "indefinite"- a period of time, they just don't say how long? "It" will have to do the same thing go to an appeals board. What "it " is doing is illegal, and you don't want to be on the same level?
