Windows mail and windows live mail?

I'm using windows mail right now and when windows & comes out I heard that you will need to use windows live mail. What's the difference between them and can you use windows live mail just like you use Windows mail? So far what I've seen is that you have to go on the internet and use it. Really prefer a stand alone email. Sometimes don't want to connect to the internet and go to the email. Like just having to click on email alone and check, usually just leave email open all day and check.
