I logon as Admin on a WinXpPro laptop - Go into User Policies and stil can't change Time/Date. Why?
-
The box where I should be able to change the time and date setting is gray. It looks like a registry key has power over this if that makes any sense... S-1-5-25etc - I double click the setting and a box comes up where I could maybe add myself as someone who could adjust the clock... however I cant click anything on this box - its frozen as a dark shade of gray. This has to do with Administrator rights I believe - but I am logged on as the administrator. This is an old work laptop... Where do I go from here? Thanks ahead of time.

Answer:
Greetings Sorry to hear about your trouble with permissions. I am betting there are more than just the time that has been locked down with this computer. So I would suggest that you do a global reset of all permissions. You can than create again which ones you would need for additional users on this laptop. Mind you though if you are using this on your Workplace network, The Network administrators are not going to be pleased you did this. Read this Microsoft Help and support Article, and you will be doing some command line work. Again if there is a security template in your machine it might just put you back to where you are now. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222 If you just want to do the time and date This Microsoft Help and support Article should do the trick: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300022 Good luck

It could be the "cmos" battery inside the laptop. This is a small battery that looks like a watch battery.
