depends on for what. neither for foundation or mascara... both have great eyeshadow colors, mac has better/more variety of eyeliners and lipglosses, NARS is good for bronzer and blush.

Mac is good, but if you have sensitive skin it might not be the best. I would also suggest Revlon as a drugtore brand, wide variety in colors.
