How can I keep my hair color lasting longer?

What brand should i choose to dye my hair and what conditioner should i use to keep the color in?

• I have medium brown hair, I dyed it very dark brown, almost to the point of being black,and within a week the color washed out, I used only color protecting shampoo and conditioner, and the conditioner that came in the hair dye box once a week. I am wondering if its maybe the brand of hair dye I used or the shampoo and conditioner I used, I don't remember what they were but I was just wondering if anybody had some good recommendations for the hair dye brand and the conditioner i should use when I dye my hair again? thanks.

  Look at the box closely..you maybe grabbed a semi-permanent dye...it will say it in small letters in a corner...i almost did that a couple of times...recommendation: get ur hair done professionaly...the ammonia and other chemicals will hurt your hair plus your hair will get patchy in color cuz box coloring only stains ur hair while professional color goes into the hair and deposits healthy color...it's not expensive to have it done professionaly. where i live, it costs like 40 for color, if that. i used box colors for a long time and every time i wound up hating how it came out and would color over it. if u insist on using box, then get something ammonia free (usually semi-permanent but def better for the hair)
