Why is my hair falling out so much at the age of 22?

Since i was around 19 i noticed my hair starting to fall out. I have had blonde highlights when i was 16 and had been dyeing my hair red from the age of 17 to 20.. (since 20 I've dyed it twice brunette) Thought this would stop it. The last year has been.. embarrassing, I'm having a tutorial with my fashion tutor and as i casually try and put my hair behinf my ears i see hair had fallen onto her hand.... EMBARRASSING. Theres hair all over my apartment, when i go to my boyfriends house, on my mattress etc. i RARELY apply heat to my hair,as its fairly straight and i have quite long brown hair (I'm 5'9 and its at my waist) and i put it in a pigtail today and noticed a massive difference from summer 2010 when i last had my hair in pigtails... It was literally half the amount. :( I have been very worried about it for a while now, i dread washing my hair.. theres no balding symptoms in my family, infact they all still have beautiful thick hair. Me not so much!!! My doctor doesn't think i should worry as I'm not going bold and you loose 40-100 hairs everyday.. but seriously I'm experiencing ALOT!! What do you think it could be? Who can i talk to for help?

treat your hair like you treat your body, use salon shampoo and conditioner and eat healthy. and it could also be stress. try changing your diet.
