Tips for a first-time waitress?

HELP! Does anyone have any tips for a new waitress?

  • I am new at waitressing. I work at a small Italian restaurant, 30 tables, 1 waitress (me), and I cash everyone out. It's really hard. I need tips on how to keep organized or how to keep up with everyone.. any tips really! One customer had to tell me to take a deep breath, another told me to take the pen out of my hand because I served their food with it in my hand (she was a waitress), and another customer said that the restaurant needed to hire another person and told me good luck & good luck in the future. So any tips are appreciated!!

  • Answer:

I agree with taking a deep breath. Just take it one at a time. Most people understand the situation. But then you get the ones that are real jerks about it just apologize and explain usually they will be understanding.

When I first started I kept a slightly bigger note pad than most the girls so I could keep my notes straight. I also took home a menu and typed up a mini version for in my book. Most people wont mind waiting a minute longer to be served if that means you have time to clear your head in between tables so that when you get to them you can concentrate all your attention on them. If they have 30 tables that are always busy you may want to suggest getting more help. Best of Luck
