How important is a certificate to work as a paralegal?

How would this work out with the birth certificate?

• If the father of the baby is in jail how can my baby get his last name and how the father can sign the birth certificate cause I want his namein the certificate sense that's the father .????????

  First of all, the father (nor the mother) does not sign the birth certificate. You will fill out an application for a birth certificate, where you will provide the baby's name (you can give him your last name, the father's last name, Walt Disney's last name if you wish) and the name of the mother and father. The hospital will provide the date and time of birth and other details. If you are married, the father is automatically listed as such in the records. If you are not married, most states require the father to sign an acknowledgement of paternity. You go ahead and list him as the father on the application, and when he gets out of jail he will need to go to the Department of Vital Statistics (or whatever agency handles birth/death records where you live) and sign that form. Then, he will officially be listed as the father. The actual birth certificate will be mailed to you, with no signatures on it other than the signature of the director of the agency. It will simply list the child's name and birth date. You can request a long form birth certificate (generally not required- I have four children and do not have copies of long forms for any of them) which will list additional information, such as the child's mother and father, hospital where s/he was born, etc. It might be neat to have, but where I live you have to go to the state capitol to get them, as they are not mailed and not available at our local department and the "neat" factor is not worth the fee.
