What are your opinions on the swine flu vaccine?

Should i get the swine flu vaccine?

  • im 14 weeks pregnant, and just turned 18 in september. this whole swine flu thing has me pretty shaken up. i get the flu every year... what should i do. im on the fence with both vaccines. ive never had the regular flu vaccine neither. PLEASE HELP ME! i dont know anything about this. so i figured if i posted the question up here... other pregnant woman would tell me their opinions..and hopefully help me find the answers i need to sleep better at night :) thanks

  • Answer:

I can't speak on the swine flu vaccine, but since you said you're on the fence with both, I will say that as soon as my doctor confirmed my pregnancy, she said I needed the flu shot. The flu can be very dangerous to a pregnancy.

No I wouldn't, I believe the vaccine poses more harm than the actual flu. When pregnant my doctor didn't say anything about the flu shot. I actually did get the flu and no one was worried at all - just some rest and fluids, that's all. A pregnant friend of mine is now recovering from the swine flu, no worries there either, she's just fine.

This question is asked 2 or 3 times a day. YOU have to make the decision. What I would do is based on my own experience. I've also had the seasonal flu shot for the last 10 years (I am caregiver for 2 at-risk family members). Talk to your doctor. He knows your health risks better than anybody on here. The H1N1 has a higher rate not just of death of pregnant women, but of miscarriage and preterm birth. The flu vaccine has been given to pregnant women FOR YEARS, so you just have to weigh your risks.

talking to your doctor is a great place to start.. i am not pregnant so i cant know what you are going through exactly but i have agonized on whether or not to get my kids the swine flu vaccine, after looking at some statistics i have finally decided that so long as i get the mercury -free version teh benefit out weigh the risk... even possible side effects fromt he vaccine seem laughable comparedt o a risk of death from teh flu

I would get the regular ( I did get it when I was pregnant with my second one) one and just ask them for the one for pregnant women ( they have one with more preservatives and one that has less, you would want the one with less) The regular flu shot is recommended for women who would be on their 3rd trimester during flu season and its considered very safe. As for the swine flu one, I didnt get it for me or my kids ( I'm not pregnant now though) . I dont know about it. Ask your dr about that one.
