How safe is it to get your tubes tied?

How old do you have to be to get your tubes tied?

  • Can and 18 year old who had not had kids and has bipolar get her tubes tied?

  • Answer:

This is a serious question which would have to be discussed with the personal Physician and probably with a Psychologist. Just to ensure the decision was sound and in the patients best interest. Even then, alternative birth control methods would most likely be prescribed, until attaining an age making tubal ligation a more desirable alternative. The most credible reasoning for this is, there is a high chance of effective treatment for the bipolar condition being found while the patient is still within child bearing age.

I doubt a doctor would do that at your age since you are still a teenager and not considered emotionally mature enough to make such a decision that will impact the rest of your life. If you were in your early 20's and still insistant upon it, then you might be able to find a doctor to perform the procedure. You might want to consider a long-term birth control method such as the Mirena IUD (good for 5 years) or the Paragard IUD (good for 10 years) in the meantime.

I dont think it will be an easy process. I think the age is somewhere in your twenties or if you have 2 kids already then I think your age doesnt matter but I'm under the impression that it varies by state maybe and that your age does matter unless you already have children. I know you want to now, but I wouldn't do it so young. It can be reversed but I really would either remain abstinent or get on a good birth control. If you don't want kids, don't have sex. I am 20 and I have 2 kids but there's no way my husband (22) or I could use such an almost permanent form of birth control. We are way too young to make that decision in my opinion.

They wont tie your tubes until your either 26 or have kids already or have a serious health problem that wouldn't be good for her if she gets pregnant. So not they wont tie her tubes. I asked to get mine tied after my ectopic pregnancy because I was scared of it happening again and that's exactly what they told me. Thank god they did because I'm now 17weeks and very happy about it.

You would have to find a doctor who is willing to do it since you are so young and have never had kids. Other than that there is no law giving a certain age one has to be to get thier tubes tied. Most doctors are unwilling to do it on someone with no children for the fear that later on in life the woman might change her mind and then try to sue him for having done it.
