Is it possible to still have your period and negative pregnancy tests and still be pregnant?

Four negative home pregnancy tests in three weeks. Period is six days late. Could I still be pregnant?

  • My partner and I have been having unprotected sex for over three years using the withdrawal method. It has never failed to prevent pregnancy. Three weeks ago I felt sort of strange, like I had a hunch that I might be pregnant. I took a home pregnancy test and I tested negative. My period was due to come on March 5th. On March 8th I took another home pregnancy test and it tested negative as well. I took two more last night (March 10th), both tested negative. My period still hasn't shown up, and I've never been late before. What's the deal? Could I still be pregnant?

  • Answer:

First, that you have been using the withdrawal method for three years and haven't become pregnant yet is amazing. If you are not trying to become pregnant, you really should research and chose a different method. That, and the frustration that your partner is feeling from over 3 years of pulling out all the time has got to be incredible. The odds of 4 tests being wrong is very small. They claim to be 99% accurate so having all 4 say you are not pregnant when you are would statistically insignificant. Even if they were only 90% accuracy the odds of 4 being wrong would be one in 10,000. That being said, statistical anomalies do occur. Just realize pregnancy is probably not the issue. Many factors can lead to missed periods, including illness, stress, excessive exercise and hormonal imbalances. All that being said, trusting a public forum with opinions by untrained amateurs is definitely not the way to get sound medical advice. Although my advice is good, you know nothing about me or any of my qualifications. You would be foolish to even trust my advice. So the best advice that I can give (and this you should listen to) is to see a medical professional and determine why you have missed your period. See someone that is trained and knowledgeable about such things and not rely on the advice of anonymous people on the internet. And while you are there ask him/her about options of birth control. Get rid of the uncertainty and guessing. It will be worth it.

It is possible that you could be pregnant, the withdrawl method has been proven to be false and home pregnancy tests arent always reliable, or your period might simply be late , but if you are worried i would go to the docter and get a test done there.

Well my husband and I use withdrawal and it seems to be effective. from what I read on a website it said this Of every 100 women whose partners use withdrawal, 4 will become pregnant each year if they always do it correctly. Of every 100 women whose partners use withdrawal, 27 will become pregnant each year if they don't always do it correctly. so the odds of getting pregnant IF you are doing it correctly is like 4 percent. However, is there a chance he could've came inside you? There could be pre c u m as well. Since your period has never been late before then there should be a little reason for concern. Also, pregnancy tests are only 99 percent accurate IF it's positive. They come back negative all the time. My mom was pregnant with her first child and it said negative. I honestly don't know if your pregnant. It sounds like you could be, but there are other things that throw off your period too so you can have some peace of mind. I am happy that you would not abort the baby but I understand your concern since you are young and don't seem ready to settle down. I would go to the doctor and get a urine or blood test. (blood tests are most effective) see what they say. you'll either get peace of mind or
