How long can implantation bleeding last?

How long does implantation bleeding last? Is cramping associated with it?

  • Just have a question...I'm 9 dpo and think I am experiencing implantation bleeding. I've been spotting brown/pinkish and only when I wipe (sorry). I do have some cramping with this, but a different kind of cramping...almost like pulling and small cramps but not strong like AF type. I additionally have breast soreness that is associated with kind of "shocks" or "tingling" not sure how to explain it. Has anyone experience this? And no, I do not normally have spotting or this kind of breast tenderness. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

  • Answer:

My sister in law went through the same thing with her first pregnancy. If I remember correctly, her doctor told her it was perfectly normal for the first 3 to 5 months, and something even later depending on your body. Every woman is different, as is every pregnancy. Her doctor told her not to panic or be too worried, but I don't know any woman who doesn't constantly worry when she thinks she is pregnant. You can see your doctor, it would probably make you feel better and they could tell you more about it, but don't stress too much for the first 3-5 months. Good luck to you!

Breast tenderness usually is a menstrual and early pregnancy symptom... however the pregnancy breast tenderness lasts longer and is usually more intense than menstrual breast tenderness (although for some people it is very mild, etc). As for the spotting you're describing, I experienced similar for just a couple of days and thought it was a very light period but it turns out some time passed, started feeling nauseated and found out I'm pregnant! Here are some early pregnancy symptoms described for you http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/symptoms-of-pregnancy/PR00102 (also every pregnancy is different, when I had my daughter I do not remember having any implantation bleeding, but this time I did). Of course I know you really want to know right away but the best thing is to wait a few days to a week passed when your period is due so your body has a chance to build up enough hcG to be detected and take a pregnancy test! =) Good luck!

When I had implantation bleeding, it was brown with a tint of pink/red in it. It lasted three days and started a day before my period was due. I had some discomfort in my abdomin area as well. I've heard of ladies getting shooting pains in their breasts, but I never got it. Everybody is different though. If the bleeding stops completely, then take a test as it should have an accurate result since your body is now considered pregnant and puts off the hcg hormone. Good luck!
