Should I ask my OB if he will prescribe me estrogen with my clomid?
-
I am now taking my 3rd day of my 5th round. I called a while back and asked if he prescribed femera and the nurse said no. And when I asked if they do estrogen shots or anything like that to help prevent my lining from thinning she said "no we don't do any shots that's why we referred you to an RE. Clomid doesn't make your lining thin..." Ok, am i crazy? Should I trust what this nurse says b/c from everything I've read (although it's been online) has said that clomid can do that. Should I call back and just ask if they prescribe estrogen? Do doctors prescribe estrogen in pills rather than shots? I am just losing hope quickly and my progesterone levels were: 12, 15, (couldn't get bloodwork) then 9.5 And now starting round 5.

Ok, to answer you first question, Clomid can make your lining thin but it doesn't always. Do you get ultrasound monitoring during your cycles? If so they should be measuring your lining. Second, you can take estrogen in pill form but it sounds like you need Endometrin, which is a progesterone tablet (vaginal insertion) to increase your progesterone levels. Don't get the two confused. Estrogen does beef up your lining and so does Endometrin but the Endometrin increases your progesterone levels which is a different hormone. If you didn't get pregnant in the first 3 or 4 rounds of Clomid then it's time to try something new. Either find a new RE or demand some tests. If you're getting your period too soon it could be a luteal phase defect (again, treated with Endometrin). If your lining is too thin around ovulation time, you have lining issues and they need to give you the estrogen or give you another drug like Femara or injectibles. It sounds like they're just giving you a bottle of Clomid and sending you on your way, which they shouldn't be doing after 5 unsuccessful cycles.

You need to see another dr or go back to your specialist. You have taken 5 cycles of a pill that hasnt helped you ovulate. Your not conceiving has nothing to do with estrogen its the fact you are not ovulating. Your results should be at the very lowest 15 although more than 30 is what the dr would rather see. You may need a higher dose of this and should discuss your blood test results as soon as possible with your specialist. you are wasting your time and may need to go a different route with fertility treatments now because you are not supposed to take clomid for long periods of time. I think the max they will let you take it for is a year. And in relation to the estrogen you dont usually need it because the hormones in the clomid are designed to produce estorgen at the right time. You should of also had a scan to check the amount of follicles that you were growing and the thickness of your womb. You dont seem to be getting a very good treatment service speak with someone else. Best of Luck
