  • Your Question breastfeeding ?nut allergy/ eczema? im nursing my 8 month old, i noticed a while back that he would get extra barfy if i ate too much peanut butter (more than just my morning peanut butter on toast) then he started getting bumpy all over his body, not red, just bumpy. then all around the time i bought a BIG jar of mixed nuts and started munching on them alot- he broke out into terrible eczema all over! well, when i suspected it may be all the nuts..i stopped eating them. it all went away. my Q is, can this be an indication that he's going to have a nut allergy, like a bad epipen level type allergy? i can find any specific info

    It does sound like he has a nut allergy, but whether it'd be that bad, I don't know, you'd have to ask your doctor, but I doubt it. You probably should not feed him any foods with nuts in them until he's at least 2yo, knowing how he reacted to your eating nuts. Lots of kids grow out of allergies over time.

Have you talked to your doctor about it? That is what I would do. I have eczema and didn't really know that it could come from peanuts. Are you sure he is getting eczema from that?

It does sound like a nut allergy or at least a sensitivity, but the good news is that many children grow out of allergies they have at this age! So, you may not be banning nuts forever! Try this: SLOWLY add nuts back into your diet... one day this week, and see what happens. Nothing? Great... chow down. Pukey/hives again? Cut it out for a couple more months and see what happens. It'll take a while, but you'll get the hang of how much he can tolerate!
