How much to charge for part time child care?

I am a part time nanny. the family is taking me on vacation to work but want me to take care of an extra child?

  • I am a part time live -out nanny for a family with 1 child who is currently 6 months old. I get paid 13.00$ an hour normally and work 2 days a week which usually equals out to about 200 dollars a week. They asked me if i would be ok to come with them on vacation for a long weekend in july. They want me to watch the child, who will then be about 8 months, while they participate in activities and dances etc. at night. so basically full time from about lunch to bed time. then they asked if i could also take care of a friends daughter at the same time. this child will be 13 months old at the time. i am sure i can handle the extra work as i have been a nanny for a long time and many families have multiple children. however i am unsure what i should charge? she told me to think about it over the weekend and get back to her. considering the ages of the children and possibly safety hazards of a rented summer house as well as dealing with a second set of parents and unknown child. what should i charge each family for the 3 day weekend hourly? or total? remember i already get 13.00 an hour for 1 infant thanks for the help! i appreciate it! :)

  • Answer:

Well were I'm from we change a flat fee for one child and half of that for another child if it's a sibling. So it would be 19.50 per hour. Normally if it's a child from another family(not a sibling) I would charge the full fee(in your case $13.00 per hour) But since your all going together, and your getting a free vacation and you would be doing a huge favor for the family your work for I would just charge $20.00 per hour for both children. You would get big brownie points with the family! So from noon until 8 pm that's $160 bucks a day! Not bad!

I would counter with half again as much so another $6.50 and hour if you think that is fair let them come back. Are you getting your meals and everything else paid for I'm assuming yes. Just put it out in a nice friendly eway and see what they say

It depends were you are and how long you will be working for but most families don't pay by the hour when you go away with them. They should be paying for all your expenses though (food, travel, etc). Normally if you have to share a room with the children then you can ask for me. For 3 days a reasonable rate is between $200-300.
