How do I go about opening my own in home daycare?

How can I go to a doctor or dentist appointment if I run an in home daycare?

  • I am opening my own home daycare. It's liscensed through the military, and I'm very excited about it. However, the only thing that confuses me is how I will be able to go to appointments? It's not like it will happen every week, but I am planning on getting pregnant as soon as possible, and that requires doctor appointments. I plan on taking in 3-4 kids. I can probably bring two of them with me to the doctor, and maybe give the other 2 to another girl on base with an in home daycare? Right? I'm pretty sure that's what they do. Also, should I pay that girl? I think it is sort of like a swap thing where I can give her my kids, and she can give me her kids if ever needed. What do you think?

  • Answer:

Actually, most doctors or dentists offices frown upon bringing young children along, if they are not the patient. The receptionists are just that, not babysitters.

First, you should possibly consider if you are going to want to continue doing daycare after you have your first child. I just say that, because when parents are looking for daycare they are looking for stability and long term. If I was you I would probably try to hire some part time help for when you do go to the doctor. Let the part time help get in there and help you out, so of course you can trust her when you leave. Of course you will have to pay her! If you get part time help you could probably get away with paying $7 an hour. Nothing against you, but I probably wouldn't take my kids if I knew there were going to be a lot of doctor's appt's etc., that would just tell me that there would be a lot of conflicts with care, unless I had a flexible job, but of course that is not an option for me :)! Best of luck to you!

opening a in home daycare you are required to have a back up provider just in case you may get sick or have an appointment and that will the the person or facility that will take over watching the children while you need them to . you can't just take them to the doctor with you with out the proper paperwork signed from their parents because you are liable for the children and you also just can't hand them over to any one they have to be registered childcare provider and fit all the requirements.. it should be stated in your parent handbook who your back up provider is and in emergency cases she will be the one responsible. You really need to read more on this before opening get a state licensing book and read every word . you could end up in big trouble for something like this . and there are many many rules in childcare you should know before you get into it

I do not think parents will be comfortable with you taking their children to the doctor with you. I say start searching for a certified assistant teacher/director as well as a close OB/GYN office. Most likely for legal rules I would think you need a legal consent to "swap" or even bring children any where with you.

lol idk great question hope u get agood response and i dont think mine is maybe u should do that swap thing.

Work it out with other on-base home care providers where you can have one of them watch several other children for that day. You can do it as a "cooperative", meaning they'll watch your kids while you go; but in return you will watch their kids when they go. Even with the doctor's office visit issue, you should begin to set a plan for the ultimate delivery and first month of your newborns life. It is not at all a good idea to have a newborn around several older children, the risks for cross-infection are high, and a newborn requires a lot of care. If you set things in motion now, you can have everything set for all your doctors visits and your eventual delivery. All the best wishes to a healthy pregnancy and happy and healthy baby! Cheers!
