What does it feel like to break out?

My 19 month old simply refuses to sleep, I feel like I'm going to break down, what do I do?

  • Up until a little over a week ago, my son was the best sleeper. I never had trouble putting him down for a nap or to bed, he'd even come and tell me sometimes when he was ready to sleep! Now, out of no where, without even trying to change him from baby bed to big boy bed or anything like that, sleep has become an absolute chore and he will sit and bawl for sometimes over an hour when I try to put him to sleep, whether it be bedtime or nap time. My husband was up with him for me all night last night, and my son only slept for about 2 hours. I feel like I'm on the verge of a nervous break down. What do I do?

  • Answer:

My 18 month old went from being a fantastic sleeper to waking up constantly about 3 weeks ago. I would be up wit him in the night for about 3 hrs each time while he whined etc and he would eventually settle thru exhaustion in my bed with me. (he was also very whiney during the day and that was not like him and he wanted to be with mommy constantly) Well after 7 days of this it all stopped and went back to normal. Then I realised it was a growth spurt as he was doing new things and saying lots of new words and he was back to my happy little chap again. So dont despair, see how it goes over the next few days. If your noticing your son trying to do new things then its def a spurt. Hope it eases your mind a little :)

Are you sure he is not sick? Or has an ear infection....something? likely teething (he should be getting MOLARS which are painful!!!). What is your daily routine right now? Does he sleep in the same room as you? If not maybe try put his crib right next to your bed. try giving him some chamomile tea (add some milk and/or honey/sugar if needed). take him for a quick walk outside. come back and have a bath. give him a massage with olive oil. get dressed. read a book. give him some Tylenol and off to bed (bottle? nurse? nothing...) GOOD LUCK.
