Where can I buy crib hardware?

Why do parents use a convertible crib as a bed, but then still buy a toddler bed later?

  • I have a crib that converts in a day bed. I don't see why the day bed won't work for my son until he's old enough for a regular size bed. Why have I heard of so many parents who use the convertible crib but at some point buy a toddler bed anyway? Is it just to have a bed that looks more like a 'big boy/girl' bed as opposed to a crib? Just want to make sure I know what's in store and if I will need to purchase a toddler bed.

Why don't you ask the parents who do so?

Its really your choice. In our case, our convertible crib converts to a full size headboard, so we have to buy a new mattress to convert it as opposed to the toddler bed which is much less expensive and we can continue to use the crib mattress. Also, a full size bed it considerable higher off the ground creating a hazard to my son's safetly at such a young age. Usually if you use your crib until the baby is closer to 2, they do ok in a "bigger" bed but any younger than 2 I would think a toddler bed or a mattress on the floor is a much safer option.

I have a convertible crib and we just converted it into a toddler bed. We used the same mattress as we had in the crib. Basically all we had to do was take off the railing to the crib and install 2 smaller guard rails so our daughter doesn't roll out. in can also convert into two more kinds of beds as well. That was the whole point of buying a convertible crib.. duh. -so your son will be fine, if your worried about him rolling out of bed, just put some pillows on the floor and clear it of anything he could roll on to. -oh and my daughter is 20 months old

I had a convertible crib and I never used the toddler bed part of it. I just put our daughter into a full size bed when she was 2 and got the rails you can purchase for the sides. Our convertible crib had broken and instead of purchasing a toddler bed when we had a perfectly fine full size bed I did that instead. I have a 1yr old and again got a convertible crib and I do plan on using it as a toddler bed instead of purchasing one. Maybe the parents feel they are missing out on a milestone by using the crib as a toddler bed. Who knows.

i bought one because it was the same price as a non convertible. i think it depends on the child. the daybeds have the opening in the middle, toddler beds tend to have the rail in the middle. if you have a kid that moves around a lot at night, a parent might feel more comfortable with the toddler bed. also, if you're going to have more than one baby, likely close together -- 3 years apart of so -- then i would suggest getting a toddler bed for the older one and keeping your crib and nursury furniture for the new baby. or else you'd have to find a matching crib or get all new furniture. well, if you care about all that.

We had a convertible crib but we bought a toddler bed because my daughter fell in love with Tinkerbell. We moved overseas and I decided to re-do her room in a Tinkerbell theme and Walmart had a Tinkerbell toddler bed complete with canopy. I couldn't resist and it was only $75.

my friends have a crib that converts to a toddler bed and they still use it for their 4 year old I had a toddler bed for my daughter when she was 2 though because it looked nicer and it would last her until she is 10. It depends on the parent on which they prefer.
