How much should a 2 year old iguana eat?

My 2 year old doesn't understand how to eat a sandwich lol?

  • I know it sounds really silly , and it looks silly, too !! My 2 year old has never really grasped the concept of how to eat a sandwich !!! She's very smart, in fact, ahead of the curve on all her milestones, she's not lagging developmentally in any way so I don't get why she doesn't understand sandwiches haha. I will make her a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or grilled cheese sandwich etc... and she will poke holes in it with her finger and then use the hole as a handle to pick it up and then she will bit it starting in the center of the sandwich at the top of the bread or she will take the sandwich apart, pick it up and lick it , starting in the center, unless I explain to her "you can bite it, Bailey" and then she'll take a bite from the center, which gets in all over her face and sometimes breaks the bread in half lol or just makes a big hold in the top of the bread, sometimes she'll open the sandwich and eat whatever is on it with her finger, just taking little scoops. When I show her how to hold the sandwich and take a bit from the side , like a sandwich is typically eaten, she will look at me like I'm crazy and then start doing it her way again - anybody else have a child that doesn't understand sandwiches ?

  • Answer:

maybe it's a 2 year old thing my son will eat the inside of whatever the sandwich is then maybe eat the bread. Or if he tries to hold it together he'll flip his hands upside down which i think hurts him and he goes back to his way.

Reason 1: your child's mouth is not big enough to take bites out of the sides of the sandwich so she breaks it into smaller pieces she can chew. This would explain why she is shocked at the spectacle of you eating sandwiches from the sides. Reason 2: Your toddler finds it to be visually and physically stimulation to eat the sandwich starting at the middle.

My 18 month old does that with sandwiches as well unless its a grilled cheese sandwich she will usually eat it but I cut those into 4 triangles and that really helps. With PB&J's she pulls them apart and eats the inside. THe only way I can get her to eat some of my sandwich is to hold it myself and let her take bites of it

Is this an issue? My daughter doesn't eat her sandwich properly either. But I never thought it was an issue... If I give a cheese sandwich...she'll eat the cheese first and bread separate. It must one of the quirks of being 2.
