How do you check your height accurately without the doctor?

So, my daughter is in 100th percentile for height, 31 for weight, her head is 82nd.. what does this meen?

  • i just got back from the doctor, where my daughter (19 months) had a check up. Her measurements said she was weight 23.5-23.6lbs 30-31% height 35.4 inches 100% head circ. 18.9 inches 82% BMI 13.2 He told me i had nothing to worry about.. but that doesn't tell me what any of that means.. all i can do by reading the other comments is picture her as jack the pumpkin king.. big pumpkin head and stick body... :( help. she doesn't look like she has a big head... she looks on the skinny side... but the scales seem to disagree? i really don't know.

    When the Dr gives you percentiles, this is the simple way to figure out what the readings mean: Imagine your daughter and 99 other babies her age, all in a line. The smallest start at 1, the rest are lined up according to size, all the way to the biggest at position 100. So, your daughter is in position 30/31 for weight. She is tallest for her age, position 100 for height. She is 82nd in head size. I hope this helps make it easier to understand :)

All the percentile charts do is compare her to other girls her age. Unless she is off the chart in one direction or another they really don't mean anything.

uh... she is 19 months. babies are born with full size heads, didnt you notice that when she was coming out of you! its a little too early to be worried about your daughters looks anyways. all babies have big heads, thats why they have the soft spot in their scull

My 19 month old is 90 percentile for height, > 5 for weight, and 40 for head size. It would be a very boring world is everyone was 50 for height, weight, and head size. Don't worry so much...

She's tall and skinny compared to the other girls her age. That's all it means. My three kids are all over the charts. One is off the chart small, one is off the chart large, and the other is somewhere in the mid 40% for both height and weight. I honestly don't even pay attention to head size.

It sounds like is is doing ok just try not to get upset about the doc because it could be nothing, take it from me one mom to a nother the doc will let you now if there is something you should now
