What all activities and teaching methods should I use to teach phonics to a group of children of age 3-4 years?

Does anyone know the correct age group for children to have free use of scissors in a nursery?

  • Hello all, I have looked on the Ofsted website and cant seem to find an answer. I want to ask if anyone knows 100% the correct age group where children in a nursery have free use of scissors without supervision? My son has just turned 2 and today in nursery he had free use of scissors and Im really concerned to think that I am at work and paying and trusting others to care for my son while he is running around nursery with a pair of scissors. If the age group is older the 2 years for free use of scissors within a nursery, I will definatly be making a complaint and report to Ofsted. Can anyone help?

    My daughter is three and certainly has free use of scissors at preschool and at home. The first thing they taught them in preschool was scissor safety, how to walk with a scissors and proper use of scissors. My daughter proudly demonstrates to me how to walk with a scissors. Hand your boy a pair of toddler scissors and ask him to show you how to properly walk with a pair of scissors. If he can't show you how to do that, he certainly shouldn't have them unsupervised. I very much doubt I would have allowed my daughter, at two, to use a scissors without supervision, EVEN if she knew how to walk with them. I'd be concerned she would have cut herself - and regardless of any rules at your particular preschool, I would have lodged a complaint.

There is no set age. And I'm pretty sure they'd be making him sit while they are being used. If not that is a danger, scissors are not dangerous while being used but you shouldn't be running around with anything.

what kind of scissors were they ?if they were blunt paper scissors thats fine but if they had any kind of point the children should be sitting and supervised. He shouldn t be running around the nursery with anything in his hands really tho
