    It all depends on your state. google state laws for unattended children. In my state there is no age but its up to the parents discretion. My daughter was 11 when I started letting her babysit her brother and sisters. They were also out of diapers and pretty easy to handle. I would definitely say no younger than 10. You have to also know that your daughter can handle an emergency situation.

I babysat when I was 13. So, when my sons were 12 and 14, I wondered if I could legally leave them alone. So, I called the Child Police. That is what I call the Dept of Children and Family Services. The woman on the phone read a card that said (don't quote me word for word on this one) something like this: It is up to the parent or legal guardian to determine if the child is mature enough to be left alone. If something happens while the child is left alone, the parent or legal guardian is responsible for negligence. So, it is NOT illegal until something goes wrong. She also mentioned that food and beverages should be accessible to the children.
