Why does game system like Nintendo DS, has worse graphics than other handheld game systems like PSP?

  • At what age do you believe it is okay to give a child a game system "Like Nintendo DS,Wii,Playstation 3 or an xbox 360"? My daughter has a leap frog learning computer game system that hooks up to the TV but we limit her on the time she can play on it. She is about to turn 4 in April and i was talking to my husband and he wants to buy her a video game for our Wii system "Its a hello kitty game" I am already planning her birthday lol Tho i think she would love the game as her 5year old cousin has a Nintendo DS and Wii and play station as well as other video game systems "Yes they are his and in his bedroom" and she wants to play them so badly but i don't want her to forget about playing outside..If you have toddlers/small children with video games How much do you let them play? and what system do you find to be best for them at that age?? I don't want to be the boring parent but i don't want to be the parent that lets they're kids play to many games

    I didn't get my kids video games until they were older. They had a great childhood & my daughter is a big reader & son is a great athlete. Not having videogames as a young child forces them to play outside, read, draw or do other things that are important to their development. When my son was 7 & daughter was 12 we bought a wii system because we thought it would be a way for them to get exersize when it's cold out/snowing. Now that they're even older, we just got an xbox so they could play with their friends in town when it's snowing etc. I don't think you need these game systems when they're little though, under 8, don't give in to peer pressure. That's just my opinion though. I also don't allow tv in their rooms until they're teenagers & may need to decompress from the amount of homework they have. Good luck.

She's still way too young. See if any of the local video rental stores have systems you can rent for a few days as a special treat (like on March break) - but wait until buying one until she's at least 7 or older.

I think thats way too young. My four year old stepson is still completely interested in playing with blocks, putting on plays, building forts, imagination games. Why would I force some point and click video game on him? Kids that age need to use their imagination. If you start her out this early on video games, she will come to think of it as a main source of entertainment. Wait a few years for her to develop of imagination and other game playing skills and then introduce video games. You arent being the "boring" parent for not allowing their child to stare mindlessly at a tv screen for hours hitting buttons instead of actually doing getting something. I find the parents who use video games to entertain their kids as the boring parents while the parents who actually get active with their toddlers are the cool ones.
