Would you allow your childs nursery teacher to give your child a kiss?
-
I work in a nursery with children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. And I was wondering if you would find it ok for a member of staff to kiss your child if you had one in a nursery (not out of the blue obviously!) but if a child asked for a kiss whats your views on it? I know I have just answered this question but i didnt really ask it the way i wanted for instance a little girl came up to me today with her lips puckered and asked for i kiss, so i gave her one and didn't really think anyhing of it until later on (incase her mother wasn't happy with it). I dont have any children as I am only 17 therfor i dont really know if i would mind someone kissing my child. But the other way to look at it is from the childs point of view as if they feel as though you can't give them a kiss, they may feel that you dont like them or care for them?

As long as it is just on the cheek I would have no problem with it. You should never kiss any of the kids on the lips. That would be crossing the line.
If the parents say that is it okay, then yes its okay. I would never do it without their permission though because some parents are uncomfortable with it. Trust me, I have been a nanny for years and I have worked in a daycare center before.
Honestly, I would talk to your director about it and see what their policy on it is. Maybe you could tell the little girls to plant one on your cheek so that the risk of germs being passed is minimum? You could even make it into a lesson (depending on their age) about germs and kissing and washing hands so all the kids know what is appropriate.
I think it's really sweet to answer back with a kiss. Kisses are sweet, and they are signs of endearment and love. But some parents might be funny with it, because it's such close contact, and if you are sick... etc...? I would tell the parent, and then ask if you can in the future if she asks for another one. Suggest to the parent you could kiss her on the forehead or top of head- away from the mouth. =)
YES
I wouldn't have a problem with it at all. I think the law does, at least here in the UK, but the law is an ***! To coin an old African Phrase (Stolen from a Will Smith album dedication!).... "It takes a Village to raise a child". If Mum has a character flaw, eg Vanity then maybe it takes Auntie to gently teach the child humility? If you catch my drift! The parent has already trusted their child to your care, so they don't eat sharp objects, and they learn how to make sandcastles etc etc, and the carer has had background checks to do their job. Children are precious, innocent, and impressionable...but they are also small humans who are going to grow up! We are meant to teach them how to grow up into good, kind adults. And therefore, showing affection when it is needed is a good way to lead by example. Ps, how strange, yahoo has edited out the word a.s.s,. In this context, its a donkey type creature!
