My almost 15 month old son started hitting when he was being hit at the Day Care?

  • How can I stop my 15 month old son from hitting? One scenario, He hates being change so when I put him at the changing table he tries to hit my hand while I'm changing him. I would tell him no and put him in the corner (on time out). He'd sit there for under a minute. I'd be stern when I'm saying no. This started when one of the older boys in the day care started hitting him and following him around. He never hits until this 'carrot top' started doing it to him and to the other younger kids. I'm really upset that he started copying this other kid. What should I do? How can I stop him from hitting?

  • Answer:

'carrot top'? hmmm how do you expect your child to act mature if you're calling a 2 year old a name?.

Tell him, that if this Ginger hits him again he's to hit him back! Twice as hard! You need to be speaking about the day care workers and asking them why they are allowing your son to be hit?

If he's doing it to stop you from changing him, he's succeeding. He hit you, and you stopped changing him. Whether or not he got put in timeout was irrelevant, because he got what he wanted. This is a situation in which you should be glad he's so young and easy to control. If he hits you, tell him "no hitting", grab both his hands and put them in the hand with which you're holding his feet up. Then just keep on changing him as if nothing happened.
