  • Answer:

You can alternate ibprophen and tylenol every 3 hours. If it doesn't break take him back to the ER or to his doctor. Also try to get him to drink pedialite.

Advil or something like that

I give my son Advil when he has very high fever and in between I give Tylenol to avoid giving him to much advil (more than 3 or 4 times a day)

I was told to start my son on both Ibuprofen (advil) and acetominophen (tylenol) at the same time. The tylenol, you can give every 4 hours and the advil every 6 hours (so you do have to start really keeping track of timing). The advil is also good for reducing swelling if he's got a sore throat. My friend gives her daughters pedialyte frozen pops. I've never bought them but apparently they exist. I am sure any juice popcicles would work if he likes that kind of thing. I have also flattened ginger ale and given that to my son (only when sick). Are you breastfeeding? My son will breastfeed without fail if he's sick. If you're not BFing, maybe toddler formula? Poor little guy! I hope the fever breaks soon. If he appears to be listless or going unconscious, take him in immediately.

How high is his fever? The ER didn't release him with a high fever..did they????? Motrin or Advil works best for fevers. IF the fever doesn't go way down with the mortin or advil, you can "piggyback" it with Tylenol. give motrin first, then an hour or two later give tyleonl. If it doesn't go down with both(they ARE!!! safe to give together) go back to the er. Tomorow, take him to his pediatrician. good luck. Do whatever you can to get liquids into him. Right now dont worry about eating, he will eat again soon. Offer light foods, if he eats it fantastic..if not...): Liquids are more important so he doesn't dehydrate. Anythign you can get into him. If he drinks water..get smart water, it has electrolites. Gatorade, popcicyles, pedialyte makes lolly pops, and popsycles if he wont drink it. Small sips every half hour is better than nothing.

How high is his temp? The other responses are correct. You can give Tylenol (every 4 hours) and Motrin (every 8 hours). Motrin should be given with food or milk. But it depends on the weight. How much does your child weigh? There are no specific medicines for treating RSV at home. It is important to give plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Also, a humidifier or saline nose drops might be recommended to thin the mucus. You need to force him to drink. Other readers are right--do little sips. Have you tasted pedialyte? It's yucky. The one thing I can get my kids to drink while sick is Propel. It has electrolytes in it that will help, and it comes in many delicious flavors. Tell me your child's weight, and I'll give you the accurate dose for Tylenol and Motrin. Check out the link below for more info about RSV.
