Answer:
I used to get horrible bites, and I was also a camp counselor for two summers, and this is what we did: *Benadryl (EITHER cream or syrup but NOT BOTH) *Band-aid also makes a great gel, but I don't know about using it for small children. Ask your doctor or a pharmacist. *Anti-itch sticks, but with the same precaution as with the gel. *cortisone 10 *if you don't have anything and really need something, a dab of vinegar will help for a while. *ice them if they are swollen. This will also help the itch. *cover them with a band-aid if possible to keep him from scratching them or rubbing them against blankets in his sleep.

my son is very sensitive to those bites as well. our ped. told us to use benadryl. they have benadryl in a stick form, take the cap off and rub them directly on the bite. It helps a lot. Be sure you don't do topical and oral benadryl, that is way to much. Just do one, I recommend the cream, very easy and you can keep it in your purse.

You'll proberly think this is stupid and gross lol but spit onto your finger and rub it on the bites and put salt on it and rub it in and leave it there:) (but don't do that on open sores it will actually hurt and sting alot) it does actually work. For open sores you can try using Amolin Baby Cream, that is great for using on diaper rash, bites etc it puts a nice protective barrier on them:) And try using beeswax also that is good stuff, my mum used it on me all the time when I was a young child, it helped greatly with coldsores, bites and sores etc, you can look for it in natural foodshops

Calamine never did much for my boys either. I bought some hydracortizone 1% cream, and dab a bit on the worst ones. You might buy a light or one of those mosquito-killer plug-ins that work like the Glade plug-in. I do that before my kids to to bed, and nothing but dead skeeters in the morning! You could also spray skin-so-soft on him before bedtime! That'll keep them off of him so he can sleep.

After Bite Kids to stop the itch (you can find it at Publix) and Neosporin to prevent infection. To prevent bites in the future, try Avon Bug Guard plus for kids. It works wonders for us.
