How long does primrose oil usually take to ripen the cervix?

How long did it take you personally to go into labour after starting to use Evening Primrose Oil?

  • My midwife suggested to start inserting two 500mg caplets vaginally starting at 36 weeks, and increase to 4 caplets at 38 weeks. I was under the assumption that this actually induces labour, which I don't want to have happen... but after I read about it, it does not. It just readies the cervix for labour when your body is ready on its own. So I know that, based on what I've read and what I've been told, that it does NOT induce labour. But in the back of my mind, I can't get it out of the same category as nipple stimulation or castor oil. I don't *want* to induce early labour, but if it's something that really will help my labour progress easier when it's time, I'd be willing to try it. So, if you used Evening Primrose Oil, how long after you began using it did you go into labour? Days? Weeks? I'm hoping for weeks...

  • Answer:

sorry hun, it didn't work for me. i was past my due date and tried just about everything and more and none of it worked....i think it only helps if your read to go into labour anyway. you've still got a good few weeks to go yet so i'd leave messing with anything that could bring on labour until you reach 40 weeks. good luck :) hx
