Pregnancy after Tubal Ligation?

Pregnancy/Tubal Ligation/Period Questions?

  • OK, basically, my ex-girlfriend just told me the other night, that she is pregnant. My ex is an evil slut and I have suspicions about 1) whether or not she really is pregnant, and/or 2) if she is indeed pregnant, that it is not mine. She "claims" she had a tubal ligation (I don't know when, or if in fact this is true, but if true, I assume over a year). She also had an abortion in July (not with me)(post tubal ligation), had her first period approximately 6 weeks afterwards, and claims she first felt the "sickness" from this pregnancy two nights ago. Since then, she's been stuck in bed sleeping, and says she has been throwing up this morning. Questions: 1. Is it possible for a woman who has had a tubal ligation to get pregnant a ALL? 2. If so, could the pregnancy in July and subsequent surgical abortion procedure have "fu**ed things up" (as she so eloquently put it) as far as the tubal ligation still being effective? 3. If she first felt the effects two nights ago, is there a way to figure out approximate time of conception? 4. If she is pregnant, obviously it hasn't been too long. Is it too early for a genetic test? Would this be possible to do alongside an abortion procedure?

  • Answer:

It is possible for a woman who has had a tubal ligation to become pregnant, but it is EXTREMELY ridiculously rare, it's almost impossible. For her to get pregnant TWICE while claiming to have had her tubes tied means one of two things: She's either lying about having had her tubes tied, or her tubal ligation was done incompletely or improperly and she needs to see a doctor. An abortion would not affect the tubal ligation's effectiveness, that is absurd, a D&C does not affect the fallopian tubes in any way. You could figure out approximate time of conception if you knew how far along she was. What dates does she claim her missed period was supposed to arrive? It is too early for a genetic test. The only way a genetic test could be done while a woman is still pregnant is via amniocentesis, which is usually done between 14 and 20 weeks pregnant. In RARE situations, usually an emergency which genetic testing is NOT, an amniocentesis might be done as early as 11 weeks. In most states, you cannot have an abortion after 12 weeks pregnant. If she had an abortion, genetic testing would not be able to be done, and even if it could be done, why would you want it done? My honest opinion is that these are the possible situations: 1) She's lying when she says she had a tubal ligation. 2) She's lying about being pregnant. 3) She had a tubal ligation and the doctor did the procedure incompletely or incorrectly, allowing for eggs to still be released into the fallopian tubes which has allowed her to become pregnant. If she is pregnant, and you haven't had sex with her in the past 8 weeks, it's not yours. Find out how many periods she claims she's missed, and find out when those missed periods were supposed to have come. And, if those things add up and you could be the father, have her take a pregnancy test in front of you so you can see that she actually is pregnant.

If she had a tubal ligation then no, there is absolutely 100% no chance of it. The only tubal ligation pregnancies I have ever heard about is when tubes grow back in this is a 1% chance in a zillion. Now you have to answer the question is she over 21 when she said she had this tubal ligation? Does she have children ? It seems to me that two things could be going on with her is Is she lying about the tubal ligation and just telling you this to get pregnant to trap you? or Did she have the tubal ligation and is telling you that she is pregnant just to trap you? My guess is the second one. I would stay away from this one, she is out for your and the next guys blood.
