Best colleges to become a labor and delivery nurse?

Nurse. Labor and delivery nurse ?

  • Ok. So I want to be a labor and delivery nurse. I know you have to be an RN ( four years) then take the test. Then get about year experience in the field then HOPEFULLY get into an l&D job. Well my question is if I become a cna first and get that experience then become an RN could I use the experience from my cna as experience to become and labor and delivery nurse? Thanks for any information you have :)

  • Answer:

Well while working up is a good choice and in my opinion makes for a better nurse, its not a requirement, but if you become a CNA and get a job at a hospital you have a foot in the door and possibly have someone (the hospital) to pay for your schooling, and have a job during and after you graduate! BUT CNA VERY RARELY if EVER work in L&D, they mostly work in postpartum. You will learn many skills as a CNA that you can use to your advantage during nursing school though.
