How to get emancipated at 16 in texas?

Can I get emancipated in Colorado at 16 because of a pregnancy?

  • Okay, please spare me the scoldings and lectures. I'm not stupid, and I'm not going to go into hairy details about how terrible my life has been and make up lies as to why I deserve to be emancipated. I merely am looking for an answer to my question. I am 16 years old now, and just discovered I am pregnant with my boyfriend of two years. My question is, if I am 16, pregnant, CAN provide financially for myself and my child ( I have a steady job already ), and have a place that I'd be able to stay, AND have achieved good grades thoughout all of my schooling, AND intend on graduating, does the pregnancy deem me automatically emancipated? Or, do I still have to go to a court and hire an attorney and file papers to become divorced from my parents?

  • Answer:

Emancipation requires legal work, it won't simply happen because you've gotten pregnant and can financially support yourself.
