When should I check for pregnancy?

Can you just ask your doctor for a ultrasound referal just to check up on the pregnancy?

  • I miscarried my baby last year and 4 weeks ago found out im not 13 weeks with twins! It was a very big but lovely shock! My first ultrasound was at 11weeks and my 2nd was 12weeks for the down syndrome test now i dont have a appointment until the 14th of Feb when im nearly 18 weeks. Ive heard a twin pregnancy has alot more ultrasounds and check ups then a singleton so i was wondering if i can just ask my doctor for a referal and go have a check up ultrasound without any other reason then because i dont like the fact that i wont get to see them for 5 weeks and it scares me a little. I always thought you go for ultrasounds for reasons and not just for checking up but can i get away with it because its a twin pregnancy?? Any one been through this or know what i can do? Thanks heaps

    A friend of mine who got pregnant after a loss felt the same. While they wouldn't just let her do an ultrasound, they did tell her to come into the office to heart the fetal heartbeat whenever she was worried. Perhaps that would be an idea as well.

hello, you can but try. i think considering what you have been through before with your miscarriage then they should be seeing you more frequently for your own peace of mind. talk to your doctor about your worries they should sympathise and book you in for another scan. good luck with your pregnancy!!! :) x

I was a high risk pregnancy with my first child, so automatically I had the same access to additional testing for my second pregnancy even though I wasn't high risk. As a result, I had many more ultrasounds. My friend who had 3 miscarriages had many more ultrasounds and all covered by insurance! ; ) Good luck with the twins. If you don't have experience with twins, you might find the resource below helpful... Jada
