What does the interview process look like for an assistant manager position at Walmart?

To tell or not to tell your preggo in an interview?

  • I am going to an interview in the morning. The position is for a Leasing Agent at an apartment complex, of which I have a few years experience so I am quite confident that I am qualified, they actually called me for an interview the same day I applied. The thing is that I am pregnant and starting to show a little. I can’t hide it really with my clothes because actually the more loose fitting tops just make me look more preggo. I looked at previously asked questions about this on here and ALL of the answers said don’t tell them, it’s none of their business. I totally don’t want to tell them, but seriously, I’m sure you have been a leasing office! It’s the Leasing Agent, Assistant Manager and Manager… small office, all work close together. I just feel compelled to tell them for some reason. It seems like working in such a small office with such few people that it would be completely awkward to not tell them. I can see in a larger work setting where you are not right on top of your managers the whole time. I just don’t know what to do and I need this job, I was laid off right before I found out we were expecting. If it’s just the wrong thing to do to tell them just tell me lol, but I just can’t get past the awkward feeling of not telling them. Please give any and all advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much!!

Personally, I would tell them. It would be the honest thing to do, and you would want your new employer to feel they could trust you. It might work against you, but if you want to come back to work once the baby is born then you can explain that to them and say you'll help make it work out?

I totally understand your situation. My husband and I lost our jobs on the day we found out that we were pregnant. I went on a few interviews and I didnt really begin to show at all until I was well in to my 5th month or so. I generally let people see my qualifications and then once they gave me a positive response I generally let them know I was pregnant. Legally employers are not supposed to discrimate against you because you are pregnant but if I were in their place I think I would start calculating how much time off I would need etc. so I just let them get a good idea of who I was first before I told them anything.

dont tell them tell after u get the job. believe it or not but they will start thinking that u wont be there etc. if ur just starting to show they may just think u have a few pounds on ur tummy. let them ask u and if they do say u are expecting a baby but please dont let this get in the way of hiring someone great for the job.

There is no reason for you to tell them this. They do not need to know any personal information about you (whether you're married, have kids, plan to have kids, etc.) in order to make an informed hiring decision (and it's illegal for them to ask you about these things). I'm sure you know it's illegal for an employer to not hire a person simply because she is pregnant, but it happens all the time. It's different if you actually get the job. Once you start working with people, you find out personal things so of course you can tell them if/when you get the job, but wait until an offer is made and all paperwork is signed.

do what you think is right. you don't have to tell them, but feel them out

Tell them straight up right at the begining. Just say, I hope this doesnt change your mind about me but, I am expecting. If you plan on being there after you have the baby tell them. Good luck, everyone elses ansewers basically said what I was going to say. Congrats!

I wouldn't tell them yet.

I think it would be best not to say anything, unless they ask if you are planning to have kids. If that is the case then tell them the truth, if you really want the job, i would tell the truth. Just so they can plan for knowing that you are going to want some time off. Hope it helps! =]
