How to make an artist's book?

How do artists afford children?

  • In theatre school I had a teacher who told us about how when she had children they were fairly poor because they were struggling artists... but I honestly can't imagine having children right now with the economy the way it is and though I can make good money once in a while I would just like to know how other artists have done it because I can't image our money stretching to afford a child and all the things they would need and should have to have a happy childhood. We're not having children yet but I don't think waiting is the best idea anymore either as it never seems like it's going to be the best time. Please any stories or advice or even a book or something would be super helpful. Thanks.

I am an artist/muralist and I do just fine. I make about $250 on an 8x10 canvas depending what it is and $50-$200 a square foot on wall murals, depending what they are. It is all in who you know and what they like. Plus I have a husband who has a great career. I am not pressured to paint for cash if I do not choose to. I just paint, and people come to me with requests and to buy my work.

If it's what you truly want with your spouse, go for it. Jobs come and go all the time anyway despite the economy.

Government support, wise budgeting, and sacrifices.
