How can avoid making my niece and nephews feel left out at christmas?
-
My niece is 6 and my nephews are 4 & 2. My SIL & BIL are spending Christmas with me husband and our three children. They've just moved from France to England where we live, the moved here about two weeks ago because of the move they have decided to budget christmas which is actually part of the reason they are coming to spend Christmas with us. My SIL dropped their presents off at our house this evening so it looks like the presents appeared over night as they are staying the whole weekend and I've just put them into the bags along with the gifts we got for them but they have very little compared to my children. My husband and I did go a little overboard with buying presents for our twins, I know at 3 months old they don't really need anything and won't remember it but it is their first christmas and for my husband and I after trying for 14 years to have a second child it is a dream come true. I did go a little excessive with my 15 year old daughter as we have renovated the shed into a kitchen for her as she loves to cook and thought it would be a nice hide away for her as it is her own personal space and then we've bought and wrapped new cooking equipment and some clothes for her. I've not even put my 15 year old's gifts into one of the Christmas bags because they would be too heavy and and too many bags. My niece and nephew's gifts only fill half a bag each and my twins have three bags between them. I don't want them to feel left out or like weren't good enough to get the same amount of presents as their cousins. Any idea how I can not make them feel left out?

Answer:
Perhaps go to a low-budget shop and buy a few more gifts for their kids. Or just keep back some of your kids presents and give them to them after your inlaws leave?

buy some things for the neice and nephews
they will only notice the lack of presents if it is presented to them in that way. Too much focus goes on material things and the number of presents when that isnt what christmas is all about. It sounds as if there are a few firsts happening e.g. twins first xmas and probably the first time in a long time that you have all been together for xmas. To make them feel more involved and part of the family, assign them a taks of helping the twins with their presents, it will be fun for them and they will get to 'unwrap' more presents. I dont think buying them more presents is a good example to set, your just showing them that christmas is a competition on who gets the most or best presents.
The only way is to buy them some more gifts, it dosnt have To be expensive toys, you can buy cheap toys, another good idea is to buy larger toys it will fill the bags up! You can also add sweets and chocolates to it, Argos have good offers on toys you can buy 2 toys for £15 Asda also have good offers on sweets, chocolates and toys
go to the 99p shop or poundland and buy lots of little bits like puzzles and tiny toys you can wrap up so it looks as though they have a lot, also you can try teddys and dvds in charity shops. I live in england too, I found hawkins bazar to be amazing and also boots are quite cheap :)
