What is this rash on me?

I need help! Rash on my son's privates. Don't know what it is....?

  • My son was on antibiotics a few weeks ago and I was feeding him yogurt everyday so that he wouldn't get diaper rash. Well he ended up getting diaper rash on his bum for a few days. After the diaper rash went away he started getting red around his genitals. I figured that maybe it was diaper rash also. But now I am starting to think it could be something else. It has been over a week and it seems to be getting worse. I have tried butt paste, desetin, vaseline, A & D, baby powder, pretty much everything that I have for diaper rash or irritated skin. Usually when he has diaper rash it is sore and he whines when I wipe him but this spot doesn't seem to be sore, it just itches him really bad. He tries to scratch every chance he gets. Anyone know what it could be and what I should do. Should I take him to the DR? Pic included: http://www.flickr.com/photos/56517435@N06/5616411265/in/photostream I was using Huggies diapers and switched to Luvs a few days before this rash appeared. Now I am back to Huggies.

I didn't look at the picture, but if your son got this rash from antibiotics it is caused by yeast...in which case it can be treated with Monistat. I know that sounds gross, but it's true.

butt paste, desetin, vaseline, A & D, all are GREAT mediums for bacteria to grow in. They love that stuff. Honestly, I've heard of parents using a light coating of plain unflavored active culture yogurt as a soothing covering, so the probiotics beat out the skin irritation. Try that or leave it dry is my advice.

call the doctor. I suggest you post this again without the photo because most likely that will get your question reported and removed. Edit - It doesn't matter that it is covered up. It is inappropriate. A simple google search using "diaper rash" & finding a clean photo would work just as well. You really need to be more careful about waht you post online. Parents have actually gotten arrested for photos showing a lot less than that. I had a friend who was reported by a Walmart staff member for taking a photo of her daughter in the tub. It just showed the daughter looking out a window and showed her daughters bottom. She was two but this staff member felt it was inappropriate. I agree nothing is wrong with that photo but you need to use basic common sense esp. when posting them online. http://blog.lawinfo.com/2010/11/09/naked-baby-photos-lead-to-parents-arrest/ http://www.generalforum.com/divisive-issues/parents-arrested-child-pornography-after-taking-bath-time-pics-their-children-64044.html There was actually a Lifetime movie on the subject too. I don't think anyone is saying you did anything awful and we are just trying to help. I do agree too that this looks & sounds like a diaper yeast infection. My kids got those a few times. If you are brave enough I'd say let him go without a diaper for a bit just to air dry the skin. Yeast loves warm moist places and a diaper is very moist. Contact the doctor too. Avoid a lot of baths if you can & hold off swimming is you live in a warm area.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU. WHY WOULD YOU POST A PICTURE OF YOUR SONS GENITALS ON THE INTERNET??? Please delete this question or it's getting reported

I tried luva once it noticed it was scented. He may be allergic to the purfume they use. I use buggies and unscented target wipes. Also, make sure the wipes you use aren't scented.
