Why is my stomach constantly growling?

When your stomach keeps growling and you have the stomach flu does it mean you are over the worst part?

  • Yesterday I had a period of nausea and then had diarrhea. Later I felt hungry and better so I ate toast, white rice, and chicken noodle. My stomach felt a little weird last night but I just didn't move and fell back asleep. Today, I had some Cheerios w/o milk, a chocolate chip chewy bar (25% less sugar), and some cornbread. Tonight, I was very nauseous and kept feeling like I was going to be sick. I don't know if I was keeping myself from doing it though cause I'm slightly emetophobic. I swallowed constantly, kept my jaws clenched and took a Dramamine. And I never got diarrhea, couldn't even go to the bathroom except for pee, so I'm a little worried that I'll get the same things again tomorrow until the virus is out. I can't go to sleep though I'm very tired, because I begin to feel ill again. My stomach is really growling, it's empty because I didn't eat anything tonight. If you're hungry that means you're getting better from the stomach inflammation right? Please I hope so... I'm in hell right now. :0( Thank you so much if you answer all my questions.

  • Answer:

You have to do the recovery diet. Most stomach bugs are 24 hours, so about now, try the lukewarm liquid diet to stop the growl, and test your stomach. Small soup, cup of tea, or biscuit and water. You'll soon find out if your stomach is ready to digest again. (Emetophobic?- don't worry about throwing up. It's just a bucket and a damp cloth.)

This is a good sign..for the next few days stay on a BRAT diet.. Bannanas, Rice, Apples, Toast...and water of course!

You should eat little and often and try to stick to relatively bland food like what you are already eating. Sip as much water as you can bare. Dont over exert yourself and rest as much as possible. A hot water bottle would be good to to help your stomach area relax.

If your stomach is growling that is a good sign. For the next day or two, I would still stick to toast, rice, and chicken noodle soup. But it sounds like you should be over it within the next 6-12 hours! Also, since you had diarrhea your body has lost fluids, so drink more fluids. Good Luck.

I don't know about viruses much, despite just having one that required steroids to prepare me for a twice post poned surgery! I have a bad gallbladder though, and that comes with gallbladder attacks with anything over what I've charted at 2% fat per meal! Over 2 % leaves me in on your knees pain, vomiting like crazy, and down for anywhere from 2-8hrs at a time 2-3 times a day! I went through a really bad set of attacks for 2 weeks, where I couldn't even drink water, and was ready to be admited to the hospital just to get hydrated! Thankfully now that I've begum charting every grain of food I take in, and finding that my attack limit is around 2% per meal....It's been 4 days since I've felt that god aweful pain (knock on wood). Eat/drink what you can. Anything is better than nothing. Generally speaking a human body can go 1 week with no food or water. Once you hit that 3 day mark you start seeing things and needing medical care. I highly doubt it's that extensively severe, if it is, see a doctor and ask for a steroid treatment! Within 24 hrs of that you are well enough to be eating and functioning better.
