What to do on Christmas Eve in Munich?

What are your family traditions on Christmas eve/Christmas day with your children?

  • I am wondering what everyone else does on Christmas Eve and Christmas day with thier children? Here is what we do: Christmas eve: Go to a candlelight christmas eve service at church Bake cookies and pies Leave some cookies and milk out for Santa, and carrots for his reindeer Read Christmas story books together Listen to Christmas Carols Let the kids open one present tonight Christmas Day: The children wake up early... usually around five to open their presents. We make a big dinner with turkey, ham, pies, and all the fixins. We eat with my mom, dad, brother, niece, and her children. I am always looking to add new traditions that will be memories for my children in years to come. I am wondering what traditions and special activities you do with your children tonight and tomorrow?

  • Answer:

ours sounds about the same...we will bake cookies and leave some out for santa, we'll read a christmas story and watch christmas movies, they'll open one present, we'll have tamales for dinner, and go looking at christmas lights. christmas day we will wake early to open presents and then take showers and get dressed to start cooking 'dinner'...ham, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, salad, veggies, deviled eggs, rolls, and cheese cake for desert. my mom, dad, and sister will come over and then afterwards will sit outside by a fire and have a few drinks and let the kids play.

We have a tradition with the small children in the family. We all leave cookie and milk out for Santa. But we also leave "reindeer" food out on the lawn. And you know Santa and his reindeer have been there because the next day you won't find hardly any of it left.(Or for more fun tell them they need to throw it up on the roof). Gives the little ones something to do. Recipe for reindeer food--one large bag of bird seed. Some plastic wrap and some red or green netting (wrapping paper or what ever you've got). Put about a cup of the seed in plastic wrap and then cover with the net or paper , tie with ribbon and there you've got your reindeer food. (hide the bag of birdseed)

Tonight my parents are having a Christmas party and have invited all of our neighbors and friends. It is something they have done for several years. After everyone leaves we do the traditional family stuff, baking cookies and pies and start cooking the ham and turkey for Christmas dinner. On Christmas morning we get up around 7, open our gifts that we bought for each other and let my daughter open the gifts Santa left her. Then we go to my mom and dad's house and open more gifts. After that we have breakfast and we cook whatever else we have to for Christmas dinner.

We sleep late, go to the movies and out for Chinese food. All the best.

Christmas eve - make hot cocoa and watch the old school Christmas cartoon I had pre-recorded - The Grinch, Charlie Brown Christmas, etc. Christmas day - take a picture of the kids by the tree first thing in the morning, that picture goes in an album full of other christmas morning pictures. Open presents and then make pancakes for breakfast.

CHRISTMAS EVE: we go to my husbands-side-of-the-family's big house on the beach, and have a bbq. the kids then open their presents from everyone their, we then have a great big dinner with lots of food, everyone has a good chat. then we look at photos that have been taken at "important events attended" throughout the year on the big tv. then the kids play with their new toys or whatever, and the adults have a cup of tea and dessert. then we get home and i make some food for the next day. CHRISTMAS DAY: my girls get up around 7-7:30 and have breakfast, then they open presents. they have a bath, and get dressed, then we drive an hour and a half to my mums and celebrate christmas day with my mum, grandma, dad, cousins, nieces, sisters etc. we have lunch their, open their presents, talk and it is just a really relaxing day with A LOT OF FOOD! merr christmas!
