What do IQ tests determine?

Are there tests for infants to determine future health/mental ability?

  • This isn't a question about a real kid. Yesterday in class we were talking about pyschology and technology. Someone said there were tests that could be run on babies (like up to 1 yr old) to determine both long term health/genes and their potential IQ/reasoning ability/intelligence, etc. Other people said it wasnt possible to determine that until kids were alot older. So I was just curious. Are there really tests that can predict a kids potential ability and/or health when they are a baby? Even a rough estimate; I'm sure nothing can predict 100%

    yes there really is tests to do that there's a name for it but i forgot i cant think of it off the top of my head but yes there is my sister did it to see if her baby would have anything wrong with him found out he gonna have some problem our great grandfather had.

There have always been predictive tests, but thus far, they aren't entirely accurate--even when you're dealing with kids who have medical issues like fetal alcohol syndrome, cerebral palsy, placement on the autism spectrum or whatever. Some kids will always defy the odds. You pretty much know that a child with a crippling infirmity isn't going to be a major league baseball player, but that's not rocket science, that's just common sense. We also know that short kids born to short parents are unlikely to be basketball stars--but again, that's just common sense. Some truths are simply self-evident.
