How do you make multicolored homemade crayons?

Crayon shaving stained glass - How many crayons per child do you need to make?

• I'm going to be setting up some arts and crafts for a whole bunch of kids and I want to do crayon stained glass with them but I don't know about how many crayons I would need per child (working on a specific budget). Each stained glass would be slightly smaller than a regular sheet of printer paper. Has anyone ever done this before and have a guesstimate on how many crayons I would need per child?

  While I've done this project with a class size of 10, and it does make a pretty project, I have to say, it isn't as fun as it sounds. I did not buy crayons, instead I dug through the crayon box, and dug out all the broken crayons we already had, and in my spare time, I sat and shaved the dad-gum things, till I finally had enough. (Read that to mean, days of shaving crayons during naptime, to finally have enough to do a small 3x4 inch project each. I spent more time shaving crayons than the kids did actually doing the project. I did them as Christmas ornaments.
