How often do you think an ultrasound tech is wrong on baby's sex?
-
As you know, we had an ultrasound on Monday. When the tech showed us the sex of the baby neither my husband nor I saw what she was talking about. Now bare in mind we have had several ultrasounds of both sexes over the years. We are by no means experts though. I even showed the ultrasound pictures to my neighbor(who's a mom and has ultrasounds too) and she didn't see what the tech was showing us either. Now, the tech is most likely right, she does this probably 10 times a day. But, I did wonder what are the odds the tech could be wrong? We don't have another ultrasound for 3 more weeks. The curiosity is killing me! What do you think?

Answer:
my question is... what does your momma gut tell you??? does it feel like a girl??? ya know... deep down inside... what's it feel like??? there is a trick... its called the "angle of dangle"... all fetuses have "aprts" down there... but the male parts dangle downwards a little bit whereas the female parts kinda point upwards... the angle of dangle is a very effective trick... btw...

My boss was pregnant with twins. First Ultrasounds showed two girls. They bought pink stuff. Second ultrasound showed 1 boy and 1 girl. They bought some blue stuff. 3rd ultrasound, oops showed both were boys. They returned some pink stuff and I was pregnant with Belle so they gave me some of it too. She did in fact have 2 boys. They are almost 2 years old!!
Well At up untill 23 weeks it was a "looks like a boy, but he is not opening his legs, well wait", at 23 weeks, it was looking like a girl, never got another good view untill 32 weeks and it was a confirmed boy, (which I think i denied for like 3 weeks since i was SOO happy they told me girl lol). But it was a boy. I think it happens alot more often then people think. I no longer ask people their gut feeling, because i REALLY thought my 2nd was a girl, like i said i didnt believe them when they told me boy, seriously. So I dont go that way now in asking what u "feel" it is. Eta I have also heard of the Dangle thing Dread is talking about BUT it was wrong for me lol. My doctor told me this with my first, that "usually" if it points more upward it is a girl...
I'm sure they can be wrong at times nobody is perfect. However, most of the time if the techs can not clearly tell themselves what it is they will let you know they are not for sure because of an angle, legs etc... If your going to have an another ultrasound then wait till then to see if its still the same. Where I lived when I had my children no tech in town could tell you if you were having a girl or a boy they could only point out certain things and you had to decide on your own. This was all done because a tech who worked at both hospitals decided to tell everyone the wrong sex of their child purposely so after a few hefty lawsuits no sex can now be named. So keep in mind that they could be telling you the wrong sex which is why most say to wait till the 2nd ultrasound if you can.
I don't know what percentage, but it would depend on the position of the baby and how clear the ultrasound is. If the legs are kinda closed, and you can't see very clearly, the tech may have had enough experience to tell you one way or the other, but it may have not been visible to you or your husband. I guess I don't have an exact answer! I know the curiosity is killing you. I wish I could help more!
Mine were correct both times and they were done fairly early (14 and 16 weeks I think). I'm sure they sometimes make mistakes, but this is part of their job, I'm sure it doesn't happen all too often.
I only know of one family whose ultrasound tech got the sex wrong. It was back in the 90s too, so I'm sure the technology has improved. I would either just ignore what this lady said and do neutral colors or have another ultrasound done.
well its easier to tell if its a boy. but a girl is harder. so they r usually more right about boys than girls
In this day and age, it would be incredibly rare. As long as they can see that area of the babby, they can tell. If the tech couldn't see that area, or was not sure, she would tell you she wasn't sure.
I hope it's not too often, otherwise our little boy would be covered in pink and bows.
